MORGANTOWN, W.V. -- The West Virginia men's lacrosse team is proud to announce its captains for the 2018 campaign.

Junior Carter Smith, senior Jonathan Welsh and sophomore Nick Raynor have been tasked with leading the Mountaineers this spring.

Smith, a Brick, N.J., product, also serves as the team's president. A long-stick midfielder, Smith has led the team both on and off the field.

He originally played for Len Zdanowicz at Brick Township High School before becoming a chemical engineering major at WVU.

As the only senior on the 2018 team, Welsh has earned the respect of his teammates and the coaching staff. His work ethic and commitment have set the standard.

Welsh is a multi-dimensional player having played as a defenseman, attackman and midfielder throughout his career in Morgantown. He hails from Westminster, Md., where he played for Steve DeFeo at Westminster High School.

A product of Southwestern High School in Hanover, Pa., Raynor is the youngest of the three captains. He is the Mountaineer's starting goalkeeper.

Nick led the team with 43 saves in 2017 and has excelled in the cage. While at Southwestern, Raynor played for Gary Hartsock and currently majors in criminology at WVU.
