Stanford Announces Captains, Schedule

Stanford Announces Captains, Schedule

November 29th, 2018 General News | Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Paul Jepsen has taken the reins of Stanford for the 2019 season and beyond, and he recently announced the Cardinal captains and schedule.

Stanford will lean on three seniors captains to lead the team in 2019.

Donny Flynn, from St. Ignatius Prep in Chicago, is a two-year starter on attack who also plays man-down defense, showing off his converted defenseman skills. He scored 16 goals and dished out nine assists last spring.

Matt Klein, a St. Ignatius product in San Francisco, has started at midfield for three seasons. He was the second-leading scorer (21g, 9a) in '18 with his ability to dodge, feed and shoot.

A gritty player with a linebacker's mentality on defense, Matthias Schmitz, led the team in ground balls. The Washington D.C., native (Georgetown Prep) will anchor the backline.

Stanford will play a 12-game regular season capped off by the WCLL tournament.

The Cardinal faces three teams that finished in the final Division I Under Armour Weekly Coaches Poll, highlighted by archrival California in the season finale.
