Purdue Illuminates Schedule, Captains

December 3rd, 2018 General News | Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- After playing in the Upper Midwest Lacrosse Conference (UMLC) championship game last year against eventual winner and in-state rival Indiana, the Purdue men’s lacrosse team is ready to make another run for the conference championship and hopefully return to the 2019 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Salt Lake City form March 6-11.

The Boilermakers will face a 12-game regular season slate, highlighted by two road trips where they’ll face Pittsburgh and Boston College in Pittsburgh, and a trip to Minneapolis to play against Central Michigan and new UMLC member Minnesota.

They will also play host to five opponents this year -- the most they’ve had since 2015.

Purdue's season starts on Feb. 2 when the Boilermakers travel to Oxford, Ohio, to play Vanderbilt followed by a scrimmage against former MCLA rival Miami (Ohio).

Four players will be leading the way for Purdue as senior attackman Evan Sattler, senior attackman Rory Fegan, senior midfielder Eli Honebrink and junior long-stick midfielder Colin Cowie have been selected as the team captains for the 2019 season.

“The team will be looking to the captains for leadership both on and off the field as we prepare for a tough and very competitive season,” said new coach Dan Sahm. “The players and coaches worked very hard through the fall season, and we believe this schedule will help prepare us as we try to reach our team goals.

"One of our goals for this year is to not only win the conference championship and return to nationals, but to grow as a team and build standards that will help the program move forward for many years to come.”
