San Diego’s Shea Has Top Performance

San Diego’s Shea Has Top Performance

March 26th, 2019 General News | Bridgeport | College of Idaho | FGCU | San Diego | UNC-Charlotte

ATLANTA – After playing an instrumental role in the Toreros two ranked wins, San Diego senior defenseman Conor Shea has earned Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending March 24.

In an SLC conference game against No. 21 Cal State on Wednesday, the Centennial, Colo., product had two caused turnovers and 12 ground balls while holding defending SLC Offensive Player of the Year Alex Cunningham to just a goal and two assists in six-on-six situations.

Shea followed that up on Saturday against No. 8 UC Davis, causing six turnovers, gobbling up 11 ground balls and even set up the first USD goal in the Toreros 7-6 victory. UC Davis entered the game averaging 15.6 goals per game against D-II opponents.

“Conor shows the phenomenal influence that one person can have on a team,” said San Diego coach Matt Paur. “He's averaging seven ground balls and five caused turnovers a game, all while covering the opponent’s best player. He's held everyone he's matched up against well below their season average in points.

“As big of an impact as he has on the field, he has an even bigger impact off the field. As a three-year captain, Conor sets an example by extreme doggedness and focus in everything he does. He's willing to do the dirty work that no one else is willing to do. It's tough to describe all that Conor does for this program.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Shea will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
