ATLANTA – After leading the Lakers to an upset of the second-ranked team in the country, Grand Valley State senior attackman Jake Parry earned MCLA Division II Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending April 14.

Caught in a typical grinder with long-time rival Dayton on Friday afternoon in Detroit, the Troy, Mich., product made sure the fourth-ranked Lakers walked away with the victory.

Parry buried three goals and set up three others – factoring in 75 percent of the team’s offensive production – as GVSU captured the 8-7 triumph that gave the Lakers the top seed out of the UMLC East.

“Jake’s ability to dodge and shoot with either hand, and his willingness to do whatever is needed of him in order to facilitate offense for us, makes him a difficult matchup for defenses,” said Grand Valley State coach Tim Murray. “He sees the field extremely well, and is just as comfortable with creating offense for himself as he is setting up teammates in quality scoring positions. He has been able to do a little bit of both for us throughout his career, as he did Friday against Dayton.

“The best part about Jake is that he is the consummate teammate. You won’t ever see him pounding his chest or drawing attention to himself after a play. He is a humble, hard-working player who takes just as much joy in the successes of his teammates. Jake is one of the three best attackmen I have ever coached, and the other two include a professional lacrosse player and a Godekeraw recipient.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Parry will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

Nicholas Bunde, Sr. – St. Thomas
In the rivalry game with St. John’s, Bunde tied his career high with four goals as the Tommies rolled to a 17-9 victory.

Michael Ferrer, Sr. – UT-San Antonio
Ferrer sparked the upset of top-seeded Baylor in the LSA tournament by scoring five goals and dishing out a pair of assists in a 15-14 thriller.

Elliot Hunter, Jr. – Montana State
In the Bobcats comfortable win over Gonzaga, Hunter won 28-of-31 faceoffs (90.3), gobbled up 20 ground balls, scored a goal and set up two others.

Matt Keeler, Soph. – North Florida
The Ospreys took down No. 11 Florida Gulf Coast, 9-8, and the midfielder set up two-thirds of the goals with a six-assist afternoon.

Vinny Magro, Jr. – Kennesaw State
In a narrow loss to Division I No. 20 Clemson, the attackman struck for five goals and dished out two assists, factoring in well over half the Owls’ production.

Joshua Sawyer, Sr. – Westfield State
The Owls knocked off Bridgeport thanks to two goals and eight assists from the attackman. He also dished two dimes in a loss to Stonehill.
