Tourney Field Set in SELC-I

Tourney Field Set in SELC-I

April 22nd, 2019 General News | Central Florida | Clemson | Florida State | Georgia | Georgia Tech | Liberty | South Carolina | Virginia Tech

ATLANTA – Eight teams, including six ranked nationally, converge on the Johns Creek, Ga., area for the 2019 SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Division I tournament from Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28.

The team that emerges from the three-games-in-three-days playoff will earn an automatic qualifying berth to the 2019 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held May 6-11 in Salt Lake City.

2019 SELC DIVISION I TOURNAMENT BRACKET

Liberty (14-0, 4-0 SELC) is the top seed out of the Northwest subdivision and will battle Central Florida (2-7, 2-1), the second seed out of the Southeast. The two teams met in mid-February with the Flames taking a 17-6 victory.

The winner of that game will face whoever emerges from the contest between South Carolina (14-2, 4-0) and Georgia (7-5, 4-1). The Gamecocks are the No. 1 seed out of the Northeast while the Bulldogs are the second seed from the Southwest. South Carolina won a 17-10 meeting with Georgia on Feb. 15.

On the other side of the bracket, Florida State (7-5, 3-0) has the top seed out of the Southeast and will grapple with Northwest second seed – and defending SELC champion – Virginia Tech (10-5, 3-1). The two teams did not meet this spring.

The winner will face the victor of the tilt between Southwest No. 1 Georgia Tech (14-0, 5-0) and Northeast No. 2 Clemson (10-5, 3-1). The two teams did not play this year.

“This year’s edition of the SELC Division I tournament is absolutely loaded,” said SELC director Mike Dubbelde. “Lacrosse fans in the Southeast are going to get treated to some unbelievable lacrosse.”

According to the latest Under Armour Weekly Coaches Poll, the SELC tournament will feature the No. 2 (Georgia Tech), No. 3 (Liberty), No. 6 (South Carolina), No. 11 (Virginia Tech), No. 18 (Florida State) and No. 19 (Clemson) ranked teams.

Admission to the 2019 SELC Tournament, which is sponsored by the Johns Creek Visitors Bureau, is $10 for an adult day pass and $5 for students. Adult weekend passes can be purchased for $20 and students are $10. Children 9 and under are free as are students up to 18 wearing a lacrosse jersey.

Saturday’s semifinals and Sunday’s finals will be streamed live on SELC.org.
