SELC Players of the Week

ATLANTA -- The SELC announced its first awards of the season by naming the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Divisions I and II for Jan. 31-Feb. 6 and Feb. 7-13.

Florida State and Florida Atlantic had the standouts in both categories for games played the week of Jan. 31.

Division I

Alex Gerdak, FSU rookie midfielder, Offensive Player of the Week:
Gerdak came off the bench to spark a comeback win for the 'Noles, contributing two goals and one assist in an important 12-8 regional win over Auburn.

Freshman FSU Goalie Sayre McMahon, Defensive Player of the Week:
In his first collegiate start, rookie netminder McMahon stood tall in the cage stopping 17 of 25 shots on goal (68%) against Auburn.

Division II

Junior Drake Summers, Florida Atlantic Attackman, Offensive Player of the Week:
The attackman contributed 3 goals and 5 assists in the Owls’ dominant 18-3 win over a ranked North Florida squad.

Junior Gabe Cirillo, Florida Atlantic Defenseman, Defensive Player of the Week:
Cirillo, a transfer from North Florida, led a stout defensive effort for the Owls, forcing 4 turnovers and picking up 4 ground balls in a dominant win over his former squad.

For games Played Feb. 7-13, four players received their first honors of the season, with Florida Atlantic again dominating the Division II selections:

Division I

Sophomore Will Frith, South Carolina Midfielder, Offensive Player of the Week:
Frith won 16 of 17 faceoffs (94%) and added a goal against 12th-ranked Boston College. Despite Frith's dominance, the Cocks ultimately fell short in a 10-7 loss to the Eagles.

Junior Reed McCall, Georgia Goalie, Defensive Player of the Week:
The netminder from Sparta, NJ came off the bench in the 4th quarter against #21 Florida with the Dawgs down 10-8 and helped force overtime. Against #13 Florida State, McCall got the start and made 28 saves as Georgia rolled to a 15-12 ranked win.

Division II

Sophomore Colin Hunter, Florida Atlantic Midfielder, Offensive Player of the Week:
Hunter produced a steady two points-per-game against Georgia Southern and South Florida, notching 1 goal, 1 assist and two goals, respectively. The Owls split the weekend, defeating Georgia Southern 13-5 while falling 8-6 in a tough battle against Division I South Florida.

Sophomore Harrison Spilker, Florida Atlantic Goalie, Defensive Player of the Wee:
The Boys Latin School product combined for 28 saves in two games on the weekend (including 19 saves against Division I opponent South Florida), stopping 68% of the shots he faced.
