February 20th, 2024 General News | Arizona State | Florida State | Northeastern | Oklahoma | Oregon | Virginia Tech | West Virginia

ATLANTA – After backstopping Northeastern to the biggest upset of this young season, Huskies junior netminder Sam Bellomy is the MCLA Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending Feb. 18.

Facing off against No. 2 Liberty in Lynchburg, the Hingham, Mass., product made 18 saves against the high-powered Flames offense, allowing Northeastern to spring the 8-7 stunner. He finished with a 72.0 save percentage.

The following day, the Huskies ran into a buzzsaw against top-ranked Virginia Tech, but Bellomy did his part, making 24 saves on the day.

For the weekend, Bellomy had 42 saves against 26 goals against – a 62.7 save percentage – against the two top-ranked teams in the country.

“Sam is our team president, captain and was a van driver on the trek down this weekend,” said Northeastern coach Tom Duca. “And he is our best player.”

“He stole the game for us on Saturday and kept us in the game for a long as he could Sunday with 10 saves in the first quarter. His ability to ‘make the next save’ is what makes him elite, as he never gets rattled.”

For winning the PEARL Goalie of the Week honor, Bellomy will receive a PEARL swag bag of goodies that will include PEARL lacrosse balls – the official ball of the MCLA.
