Wickman, Suh Named Players of Month

March 4th, 2024 General News | Clemson | Coastal Carolina | FAU | Florida State | Georgia Southern | Georgia Tech | Kennesaw State | Miami (FL) | Montana State | San Diego State | St. Thomas | Tennessee | Texas | Virginia Tech

ATLANTA – After helping their respective teams race out to a hot start to the season, Virginia Tech senior goalie Andrew Wickman and Kennesaw State freshman attackman Evan Suh have been named the February MCLA Players of the Month presented by Lacrosse Specialties.

Wickman has been the backbone of the top-ranked Virginia Tech defense that has tangled with the Nos. 6, 7, 8, 12 and 19 teams in the country and come out on top. Over a seven-day period against No. 12 Florida, No. 6 Northeastern and No. 8 South Carolina, he posted a 63.9 save percentage and a goals against average of 7.33.

For the month, the Media, Pa., product made 64 saves, stopping shots at a 61-percent clip.

“Andrew has stepped up this year to continue the long lineage of incredible Virginia Tech goalies,” said Virginia Tech coach Panchito Ojeda. “He is an unrelenting competitor and hard worker. I couldn't be prouder of him, as he has flourished in his role this year anchoring our defense.”

Suh led Kennesaw State five wins in February with dominating offensive performances. The Suwanee, Ga., native scored at least a hat trick in all six contests – including three games against MCLA Division I competition.

His high-water mark was an 11-point (6g, 5a) performance against SELC divisional rival Georgia Southern. He set his career mark to date for goals against North Florida with seven. Against D-I No. 22 Auburn, he posted three goals and two dimes.

In the month of February, Suh amassed 29 goals along with 15 assists for a points per game average of 7.33.

“Evan is everything you could ask for in a player,” said Kennesaw coach Ben Greenough. “He is selfless, hardworking and extremely coachable. He is the ultimate team player, consistently bringing a positive attitude and a calm demeanor that is infectious.

“It's rare to find a true freshman with his level of maturity and leadership. He goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is on the same page. He leads with his effort and actions, preferring to have his teammates shine whenever possible.”

For earning Player of the Month honors, Wickman and Suh will receive a customized plaque from Lacrosse Specialties, the official trophy and award sponsor of the MCLA.
