FAU’s McIntyre Earns Warrior Award

FAU’s McIntyre Earns Warrior Award

April 23rd, 2024 General News | Air Force | FAU | Kennesaw State | Long Beach | Miami (FL) | Montana State | NNU | San Jose State | St. Thomas

ATLANTA – After leading Florida Atlantic to its first-ever SELC championship and an automatic berth in the 2024 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, junior midfielder Gavin McIntyre is the MCLA Division II Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending April 21.

In a shootout with Georgia Southern in the semifinals of the SELC tourney, the East Moriches, N.Y., product scored a goal and dished out three assists as the Owls prevailed, 24-18.

In the finals, McIntyre buried a pair of goals leading Florida Atlantic to a 15-13 triumph over two-time defending SELC champion Kennesaw State.

The two-way midfielder also grabbed nine ground balls and caused four turnovers in the championship effort.

“Gavin is the kind of person that any coach would build their team around,” said Florida Atlantic coach Stavros Neocleous. “Gavin impacts games at all levels and his season stats are a great example of that. He makes everyone’s job easier, coaches included. He is consistently putting forward a winning effort and chipping in wherever the team needs him most.

“Gavin’s on-field impact is vast, but it is overshadowed by his impact as a leader on and off the field. Being named a captain in his second season with the team, he brings the sort of leadership and effort that is needed to win big.

“Gavin is truly a game-breaker. His athleticism and knowledge of the game allows him to use his skill to take over games. The SELC playoffs were just a small example of his impact this season.”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, McIntyre will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
